The Murals of Bernal Heights
I've lived in San Francisco for nearly two decades, and have spent half of that time in the Bernal Heights neighborhood.
Bernal heights is a sleepy, quaint neighborhood in the southeast sector of San Francisco. At the center is the hill, topped with wild coyotes, owls perched on eucalyptus and pine branches, and an annual bloom of wild poppies. From this nexus all streets stream off and downward. There’s a proper neighborhood vibe here, with familiar faces and friendly shop owners. On many of its narrow roads you’ll find miniature libraries where locals can give or take a book. It’s elevation will challenge your legs, rewarding you with secret walking paths adorned with pleasant landscaping and small homes painted in a variety of colors.
It's also here that many beautiful and unique murals are on full display, often proudly stationed on a home's garage door. Here I have captured many of those murals, for all of us to appreciate.
